3 Simple Ways to Stay Fit During the Festive Season

The festive season is a time for winding down, socialising with friends and family, and indulging your hobbies and culinary desires, which often leaves little room or desire to hit the gym every day to stay fit.

While time away from the gym can help you recharge your motivation levels and resting over the holiday period is important to recharge your body and mind, there is no reason why you need to compromise on your fitness and conditioning.

Follow these tips to stay fit throughout the festive season festivities to come back recharged and ready to chase those goals in the New Year.

1. Get creative

Look for opportunities to get active during your holiday with fun outdoor activities like swimming in the ocean, going on a bike tour, or trying something new and adventurous like kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding (SUP).

If you plan on spending every day on the beach, find a few games to play on the sand with friends and family. Great options include beach volleyball, frisbee, beach soccer or even sprint races. They’re all great ways to get quality time in with kids and loved ones while working up a sweat.

Remember to pack a refreshing drink like Primal Amino Force to keep you hydrated and refuel your body.

2. Walk

Walking is a great form of activity, helping you burn calories while getting you outdoors for some fresh air and much-needed headspace.

If you’re visiting a new city, join a guided walking tour. It’s a great way to experience your holiday destination and its unique vibe and culture. The tour guide will also offer interesting facts and insights to stimulate the mind in addition to the body.

A hike into nature is also highly restorative. Spending time in nature has been shown to significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels¹. The environment and fresh air can help calm your mind while the physical exertion will improve your strength and fitness and boost your metabolism.

Don’t forget to pack a snack in your bag or backpack to keep you fuelled on your walk. A Primal Energy Bar is a great-tasting and convenient way to meet your energy needs.

3. Embrace Micro Workouts

A micro-workout approach is a quick and convenient way to get your daily dose of activity done while on holiday.

Micro-workouts are generally short bouts of activity or intense exercise performed periodically throughout the day rather than in a single session.

Holiday options include a morning power walk to the corner coffee shop or a purposeful sea swim to a few 10-minute interval sessions with 2-3 compound bodyweight exercises at your accommodation or out in nature.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is an excellent choice for holiday-proofing your fitness routine because they are time-efficient, burns calories and improves cardiovascular health in a short amount of time.

All you need is a few resistance bands and a bench, and you can create a full-body workout that gets the heart pumping and sweat pouring.

Keep your energy levels up and finish your workout feeling refreshed and revitalised, sip on Primal Amino Energy or Primal BCAA 12:1:1 during your workout.

Staying active on holiday will help you unwind, reduce your stress, and, most importantly, help you maintain your fitness levels so that you come back feeling recharged and ready to train at full gas again come January.
